Introduction
Social science begins with the insight that our “common sense” or “obvious” ideas about how human individuals, groups, communities, and societies behave don’t match up with the way they actually behave. Social science is a systematic way of getting past “common sense” to study human beings' surprising cognitive and social lives. We find that various contexts shape the way human beings think and the way human societies act.
Social science is composed of many disciplines. This means that when you graduate with a social science degree, you’ll be able to study, understand and work with the many different kinds of contexts that affect our lives. A different social science studies each different social context. The Social Science B.A. challenges you to consider how these contexts affect outcomes as small as the course of individual life and as large as the fate of civilization itself.
