Our BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology with Foundation Year* is a four-year degree. The teaching team includes practising criminologists at some centres. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of cutting edge criminological and sociological theorising and will be able to apply this to current socio-economic policies and conditions. In order to achieve this, students will develop a critical understanding of criminology and sociology in relation to current issues such as urbanisation, embodiment, family, globalisation, marginalisation and migration. Criminology and Sociology will be considered from a fresh perspective using feminist, critical, cultural, and race critiques to revisit societal issues. The course is aimed at students who may not be served by the current sociology/criminology degree courses in research-led universities. The first year is a Foundation Year, which students study alongside our LLB (Law) students and is taught by our law tutors. This year focuses on developing the key skills required to undertake a degree-level study, both academic and legal/professional related learning.
