Program Description

Teaching solid communication skills is at the heart of all the department's programs, whether you'll be communicating through a news story, press release, website, on television or face-to-face.

We offer three emphases with seven tracks. Whichever area of communications interests you, we've got you covered.

Application for Admissions Checklist

  1. Completed online application for admissions (There is no application fee). Susquehanna International Application or Common Application or Coalition Application.

  2. Counselors submit School Report Forms to us if you supplied an email address through your online application. Or ask an administrator of your high school to send a School Report Form directly to the Office of Admission. If you do not send a School Report Form, you will be required to send official or attested academic transcripts from all secondary schools, post-secondary schools and universities.

  3. If English is not your first language: TOEFL—80 (internet based) or IELTS (minimum 6.0) or Cambridge English (minimum 170) or PTE Academic (minimum 53); ACT (minimum 19 in English ) and/or SAT (minimum 450 in Critical Reading) scores accepted in lieu of TOEFL/IELTS/Cambridge/PTE; English Language Learners program and conditional admission are available.

  4. SAT and ACT scores are optional but may improve your chances for a merit scholarship.

  5. Two recommendation letters. It is strongly suggested to have one from your school counselor. The others can come from a teacher or professor.

  6. Passport copy of your name and photo page.

  7. Completed Certification of Finances form.

English Requirements

If English is not your native language, you will be required to show proof of English proficiency. This can be accomplished by sending an official score report from one of the following exams.

TOEFL

  • Internet-based minimum score: 80
  • Computer-based minimum score: 213
  • Paper-based minimum score: 550

The official copy must be sent directly from the testing service. Our school code is 2820.

IELTS

Minimum score: 6.0 overall band

Cambridge English

Minimum score: 170

SAT

If you are a first-year undergraduate freshman applicant, your English requirement can be satisfied by achieving at least a 450 on the Critical Reading section of the SAT exam.

ACT

If you are a first-year undergraduate freshman applicant, your English requirement can be satisfied by achieving at least a 19 on the English section of the ACT exam.

Exemptions

If you have attended an IB (International Baccalaureate) high school program or an American High School abroad, you do not have to prove English proficiency. You may also be exempt if your high school is fully-instructed in English. Please contact your admission counselor for details.
