The Faculty of Architecture has two departments, namely that of Architecture and İnterior Architecture and Environmental Design. These have a total of 450 students comprising about 10% of the university student population. We aim at educating students who have a good knowledge of implementation and the construction market, good acquaintance of contemporary materials and detailing and developed creative design capacity. With these in mind, we invite professionals of all kinds to participate in our education and activities. There are currently as many visiting lecturers as the permanent staff, but this is to decrease gradually down to 20-30 % in the future. By inviting professionals we aim at uniting theory with practice. In addition, at all times, between 10 to 20% of our academic staff is composed of foreign nationalities. Knowing that love of a profession is the key to success, each academic year we engage in many diverse social and academic activities. Some of these are carried from the local up to the national and international scale. The faculty desires to further develop its international relations and this is clearly stated among its development goals and objectives. The Faculty, in parallel to the aims of the University, also serves the city of İzmir and it’s region. We collaborate with several municipalities and government offices in preparing projects and research. These also help increase the experience of our staff and students. We are conscious that good professional knowledge does not suffice and that students will need entrepreneurial skills in order to...

The Architecture program at Hasan Kalyoncu University embraces the art of making. We are committed to the traditional role of the practitioner and master builder: to design and construct buildings that contribute to society and enrich people’s lives. To that end, the curriculum promotes research and design based on the linkages between conceptual frameworks and the tangible nature of architecture. Through rigorous investigations into the history, theory and material culture of the built environment, students engage design as a fusion of the art and science of building.
HKU provides a wonderful setting for architectural education. Students experience the cultural richness and a diverse tapestry of both traditional and contemporary buildings. They learn about the opportunities and the responsibilities inherent in the architect’s role as form maker of the built environment while discovering the profound impact of architecture on individuals, communities, and societies....

Having accepted its first cohort of students in Fall 2013, Architecture is a small but steadily expanding department. While we aspire to match the academic standards of the best architectural schools across the globe and incorporate cutting-edge thinking in architectural pedagogy and practice, we also seek to install in our students, a strong sense of social engagement, environmental responsibility, and professional ethics.
***With a foundational belief in design as a “Critical Practice” that can generate “public good” in the world, we take issue with the increasing instrumentality and commodification of architectural knowledge, education, and production. We envision our graduates to be fully aware of the social, economic, political and cultural dynamics that shape the production of the built environment and to engage with them critically and innovatively in multiple scales from single buildings and construction details to large urban interventions. We pledge to educate the next generation of competent, creative and critical design professionals who can challenge the received conventions and fashionable trends of their discipline and are as interested in defining problems as they are in solving them....
