This BA (Honours) in Social Sciences (Geography) is one of several specialist routes available in our BA (Honours) Social Sciences (R23) degree. Half of your studies will be in interdisciplinary social science and sociology, giving you a firm grounding in the knowledge and ideas that are central to the social sciences. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) is Otago's most flexible undergraduate degree program, enabling students to study from a selection of more than 40 arts and social science subjects, as well as papers offered elsewhere in the University. Academic breadth is complemented by in-depth knowledge gained through majoring in one or two subjects with the option of minors in one or two others.

Environmental Studies and Geography, with its major focus on human-environment interaction, is a broad discipline which analyzes the distribution and interrelationships of physical and human phenomena on the earth.

The course combines study of the fundamentals of both subjects with the opportunity to focus on individual areas of interest through specialist option modules. The Geography Program offers an undergraduate major leading to a Bachelor of Arts in geography. Students may choose either the normal geography degree program or the concentration in cartography and remote-sensing GIS. The program also offers two minors: geography and historic preservation.
