Tourism is a classic growth industry: Since the start of musicals in the mid-1980s, the number of overnight stays in Hamburg has increased by around 170%. In the year alt="2009, 4.4 million guests spent 8.19 million nights in the Hanseatic city. alt="According to information from Hamburg Tourismus, the number of visitors rose by a further 9,alt="2% in 2010, with the majority of the growth being generated from abroad (+11.9%). This underlines the internationality of this branch. In the year alt="201alt="2, Hamburg broke through the 10 million overnight stays mark for the first time. No other European city is developing as dynamically as the Hanseatic city. In line with the increasing demand, the volume of offers also increased constantly, which in turn speaks for the importance of Hamburg as an attractive location for tourism and the corresponding investments: This year, according to "Nordwirtschaft", there are 1alt="2 new hotel projects with a total of alt="2,800 beds before completion.
And these trends are not only found here: The UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) predicts an increase in international tourist trips from 9alt="2alt="2 million in the year alt="2008 to 1.6 billion in the next 10 years ahead.
Tourism is naturally closely linked to other areas such as event management, trade fair and event management, sports and wellness, the hotel and catering industry or transport.
The event industry is also booming. For many companies, events are a natural part of the marketing concept. Other institutions use events for employee or customer loyalty. Events have to attract attention, be well organized, run perfectly for outsiders and be pleasantly remembered for a long time.
NBS always focuses on the employability of graduates. This is promoted, for example, by the integrated free seminar program. Are you considering an academic career? Use our scientific publication series for your first publication!
There are different areas of work for graduates in the large tourism companies, for example in marketing, in HR management or in the legal department. Flexibility and inventiveness are among the necessary qualities in the industry. Excellent knowledge of several languages and initial experience abroad are required. A pronounced service mentality is particularly important for the companies in the sector.
In cooperation with the Hamburg Tourist Association:
