As an NSU History major, you'll acquire proven methods to interpret the social, cultural, and political forces that have shaped the course of both American and world history, and you'll go deeper with advanced courses such as The Civil Rights Trail and Genocide in the 20th Century and Beyond. You’ll gain hands-on experience with an internship in history and delve into research during your Senior Seminar in History. As a History major, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore a range of other courses in the humanities and social sciences. Experiential Learning/Internships
During your undergraduate studies, you’ll have a number of hands-on opportunities to gain real-world experience. The history curriculum includes research-based courses where you’ll have the opportunity to work with primary source archival materials, as well as travel study courses where you’ll gain first-hand experience of the historical locations you’ll study in class.
NSU’s Center for the Humanities serves as a resource for both students and scholars at NSU and from elsewhere. The center hosts workshops, conferences, and other professional development events. Students can participate in exciting Center for the Humanities initiatives such as “The Story of Home: Immigration Narratives about Homelands and Homecoming” or by showcasing their own projects as part of the center’s Digital Humanities initiative.
Additionally, NSU history students enjoy exclusive internships at organizations like the NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale, the NSU Center for the Humanities, and History Fort Lauderdale.
