Introduction
Business professionals of tomorrow need more than an understanding of core business disciplines – they need adaptability, curiosity, and agility to respond to a changing future.
The Bachelor of Business will give you the practical skills for business decision-making in the modern business context and the capability to recognize and act on opportunities for a future different to today. As a student, you will learn foundational business principles in law, accounting, economics, management and statistics and more, and also choose to pursue specialist knowledge from a diverse range of majors.
As graduates of the Bachelor of Business, you will gain the professional, critical thinking and communication skills to prepare you as practitioners for a broad range of sectors, including in marketing, product management, investment, finance and more.
The Bachelor of Business is designed for maximum flexibility - you can study the Bachelor of Business on campus or online.
Career Opportunities
Graduates typically work in the areas of advertising, marketing, public relations, product management, international business, human resource management, investment, banking, accounting, and finance.
Professional Recognition
The Accounting major is accredited by Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand and CPA Australia. Students may apply for membership of the Institute of Public Accountants.
The Finance major is aligned with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) RG146 accreditation requirements and Southern Cross University provides authorized assessment for certification.
Students are eligible to join the Australian Institute of Management.
Professional Placement
Students may choose, as electives, one or two double-weighted internship units.
Major Areas of Study
Students have the option of completing the core units in the Bachelor of Business plus electives or they may specialize in one or more business disciplines of their choice through the study of a single or double major.
All majors are available in online study mode. On-campus students may also study any Bachelor of Business major online. Some majors, study streams, and units may not be available at each campus location.
Majors are as follows:
- Accounting (Gold Coast, Lismore, Coffs Harbour, SYD*, MEL*, PNG)
Equips students with the technical, conceptual and managerial skills to be effective business managers in modern commercial, government, social and not-for-profit organizations.
- Aviation Management (Gold Coast)
Aviation management units help develop an understanding of the broader function of, and impacts on, the aviation industry. Students who have successfully completed a Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Flight Operations) with another institution may be granted up to eight units of advanced standing (credit) for the Bachelor of Business with a major in Aviation Management. This major also provides students with the opportunity to undertake a full accredited CASA Commercial Pilot License through Airways Aviation.
- Finance (Gold Coast, Lismore)
Students are taught to understand the key principles of wealth creation and risk analysis in a global economy. They learn to evaluate factors that impact on the value of the dollar, interest rates, and stock market.
- Human Resource Management (Gold Coast, PNG)
Students are equipped with the professional expertise and understanding needed to manage selection and recruitment procedures, training and development, and performance management of staff.
- International Business (Gold Coast, SYD*, MEL*)
Prepares students to respond to the complexity of global markets, addressing issues such as cross-cultural communication and negotiation, alternative market structures, variations in consumer demand patterns and differing government regulations and policies.
- Management (Gold Coast)
Equips students with the skills to monitor the changing business and social environment and make sound judgments on the most appropriate directions and actions.
- Marketing (Gold Coast, SYD*, MEL*, PNG)
Students develop analytical business skills, excellent communication skills and an understanding of human behavior and motivation. They learn how to create effective marketing strategies and campaigns.

Assessment methods
Assessment may be in the form of essays, reports, audio or video presentations, online quizzes, case analyses, and examinations.
Teaching methods
On-campus students experience a variety of teaching approaches including lectures, tutorials, online activities and video-linked or podcast virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
Our online study option is highly interactive and strives to promote collaboration and a sense of community. Students may receive a combination of a podcast or video-linked lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. The method of teaching may vary from unit to unit.
