Introduction
Accounting majors at Wisconsin Lutheran College graduate prepared to make an immediate contribution to an organization, complete the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination (CPA Exam), or enrol in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
The accounting major is nested within the liberal arts and firmly grounded in Christ. In addition to general education requirements and core courses in the accounting major, students benefit from business administration, communication, mathematics, and philosophy, developing skills in critical thinking, analysis, communication, and ethical decision making. These skills prepare majors for success in wealth management, auditing, tax, consulting, accounting, asset management, and various other financial services.
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for accounting professionals is expected to grow at 13% between now and 2022. Increased regulation has resulted in additional accounting positions, causing many public accounting firms to offer signing bonuses and other incentives to accounting graduates. Students majoring in WLC's accounting program, through completing the required coursework and 150 total credits, are eligible to take the nationally administered CPA Exam and obtain a Certified Public Accountant license from the state in which they seek employment.
